A Vision of Better Transit and Better Communities
The Action Committee for Transit has a vision of a Montgomery County where it is easier to travel and more pleasant to live — a county built for people and not for automobiles.
Years of experience have shown, and studies have proven, that building and widening more highways leads to more traffic and more congestion. Affordable, convenient, frequent, reliable transit gives us a way to get past the traffic jams and fosters a better quality of life in our neighborhoods.
It is time to change priorities:
- Connect our communities with a network of rail and bus lines
- Redesign streets for easy, safe walking and cycling
- Create diverse neighborhoods where all are welcome
ACT LEADS THE WAY
Thirty five years ago, ACT's first six members gathered in a living room to plan the light rail line that eventually became the Purple Line. After decades of struggle, we will soon be riding these long-needed trains from Bethesda to New Carrollton, but it is only a first step. Today, ACT is building on our past success with a broader vision for a more livable Montgomery County:
- Run MARC trains all day, both ways, connecting Silver Spring, Kensington, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Germantown and beyond.
- Make walking and cycling safe and convenient in all our neighborhoods
- Build more homes near transit so that everyone can afford to live here
-
Create a network of frequent bus lines spanning the county
You can help make that vision a reality. Join the Action Committee for Transit today.
