Purple Line opponents veer into fantasy with proposal for toll truckway on Jones Bridge Road

March 10, 2015

On the heels of the massive outpouring of Purple Line supporters in Annapolis last night, opponents of the light rail line have swerved into transportation fantasy by proposing toll lanes for trucks along Jones Bridge Road.

In a statement quoted by the Bethesda Now blog, the anti-Purple Line organization "Friends of the Capital Crescent Trail" proposes allowing toll-paying trucks onto the Jones Bridge Road busway that has long been its favored alternative to building light rail. Jones Bridge Road is a neighborhood street that is only two lanes wide for much of its length and faces North Chevy Chase Elementary School.

"This kind of magical thinking ignores practical realities and impacts on communities,” commented ACT president Nick Brand.
