We Need a Gas Tax - But Only If It's for the Purple Line

Testimony to the Montgomery County Legislative Delegation

November 16, 2011

Action Committee for Transit (ACT) was formed 25 years ago for the express purpose of advocating for a transit line to connect Bethesda and Silver Spring. Last month, we celebrated that the Purple Line passed its first Federal hurdle and won approval to proceed with preliminary engineering. As the region’s first light rail project, it will connect 60,000 riders a day, in two counties, to economic opportunities throughout the region, reducing gridlock and improving our environment.

ACT has only one priority to convey tonight ---

ACT supports the gas tax ONLY IF there is funding for constructing the Purple Line. If not, we do not support increasing the gas tax.
